Why Internet is a Universe of Opportunities

InternetInternet has created level playing field.   Anyone can go online and take up free education.      In the past few weeks I have been browsing through the net and I picked up few powerful lessons that I would like to share

  1. FEEL STUCK AND BORED: List down a new person you can meet, a new place to visit or a new activity to engage.  And once your list is ready go and meet, visit engage in the new activity.  Message: Grow this list and meet new people new place and learn new things. 
  2. PROCRASTINATION: Procrastination is tool of poor. You have been procrastinating an important job, activity or a meet. You dread taking the first step.  SOLUTION:  There are two options.
    1. Nag (internal dialogue) yourself to take the first step.
    2. And if you have no clue how the job should be done, write down the names of all people who can help you. Now go ask them for help.
  3. The other day I was listening to YouTube interview of a billionaire and he was asked “What is one thing that has helped you immensely in your business?” and his response was listening to people. Message: Listen more than you speak and you will never regret.
  4. Create an imaginary or virtual master mind group (Idea from “THINK AND GROW RICH”). The virtual master mind members may  be top 5 richest, Nobel laureate or global leader past or current – Read their biography before you visualize calling them for a meet.  You will be surprised that when you ask them for answers to your pressing challenges, you will begin discovering answers yourselfMessage : We have answers to all the challenges it’s just that our mind needs a little nudge.

Enjoy your life and include one new activity, person, place during the day and your life will never be the same.  Remember Journey of thousands mile begins with the first step.

Missing Link

Take # 1:  Studies reflect that a Single individual can impact the mood of an entire group.  And especially Leaders and Managers play crucial role because if they maintain positive moods, the performance of the employees shoots up.

One way to influence the mood of the organizations is through their sense of humour and ability to be lighthearted.  In the book THE LEVITY EFFECT authors states that as a result of creating a lighter tone, employee’s performance; loyalty and retention increases.  Let’s explore few tips that will create the levity effect?

  1. Joke Session: Hold joke sessions during coffee /lunch break.  Create a platform that will also encourage public speaking.
  2. Meetings: Begin every meeting with light hearted banter or a Joke session.
  3. Training: Send your team for training on finding and creating humour.
  4. Practice: Practice finding humour in your day to day activities.
  5. Smile: Practice smiling more and reward employees for the best smile.
  6. Laughter Session: Hold laughter sessions.
  7. Posters: Decorate your pantries and break rooms with humour posters
  8. Comedy Movies: Play comedy movies at the common areas; reception and break rooms.
  9. Newsletter: Create a humour Newsletter wherein employees share the humour incidences.  Reward the best humour article.
  10. Subscribe: Subscribe to joke a day.
  11. Greetings: Create super positively charged greetings for your customers and employees.  Instead of simple good morning change that to it’s a brilliant day. 
  12. Humour Page: Create a humour page on your web site wherein employees and customers can contribute jokes or humorous incidences.

The above activities in no way reflect that professional work is not being accomplished but you will sooner realize that employee performance increases which is reflected in enhanced camaraderie and customer engagements. 

Add life to your brain


In a small experiment members of audience were expected to recall a list of “15” common words written on the board, few of the words had a letter missing. Such as “OF­­­­­_ICE.”  The 15 words were in vision for a minute and then removed.  The next exercise was for members of the audience to recall as many words they could remember.  Result the words that had a letter  MISSING  were recalled more number of times then the complement words.  What does that profess?  The experiment professes that when mind is engaged it is much more likely to remember and recall the experience.  In the experiment where letter was missing the mind was engaged in finding the missing letter to complement the word hence the members of the audience recalled  the missing letter words more vividly then the complement words.

The lesson can be applied in real life wherein if you want to learn something get your mind engaged, just going with the rhythm may not help.  For example if you are attending a   lecture on  Social Media make sure that you ask questions,  this will engage your mind and increase the retention.  And if you are delivering a seminar then ensure that you have enough hooks in your delivery to engage your audience.
